Yesterday (3 April 2019), we learnt that Genting Malaysia will acquire the infamous luxury yacht, Equanimity for USD126 million (approx RM514 million).

If you didn’t know, the superyacht was allegedly bought by Low Taek Jho (aka Jho Low) for USD250 million (approx RM1 billion) using funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

While most of us think that the price paid by Genting for the yacht is quite expensive, Jho Low seems to think otherwise. In fact, the fugitive businessman thinks that Equanimity has been bought over for a very low price, reported The Star.

He also said that Pakatan Harapan government’s way of handling the yacht’s sale shows their incompetence, especially in terms of its sale price. Whut.

Jho Low claimed that the government didn’t abide by the rule of law when selling off the yacht. On top of that, he pointed out that the government did not make sure that they got the best price for the yacht. In a statement, Jho Low was quoted as saying,

“The bargain-basement sale price accepted by the Mahathir government for the yacht Equanimity is the final chapter in yet another tale of the regime’s incompetence and disregard for the rule of law.”

“It took the Mahathir government twice as long as they promised to sell the yacht, the auction flopped and the ‘transparent’ sales process the Mahathir government committed to at the outset has been subject to multiple abrupt changes – largely forced on the Government through their own incompetence.”

“The Mahathir Government has shown that they are prepared to trash the value of the Equanimity in a misguided attack on their political opponents.”

Jho Low also blamed the PH government for forcefully acquiring the yacht from Indonesia and docking it in a “hazardous environment” like Port Klang.

He said that the government could have maintained Equanimity’s value and avoided a “fire sale” if it was properly taken care off. Following that, Tun Dr Mahathir fired back at Jho Low as he challenged the businessman to repeat his allegations in Malaysia.

Tun M said,

“He can come here and make the same allegations and I will go to the courts to defend my decision (to sell Equanimity).”

Well, it looks like Jho Low has a lot to say about the sale price of Equanimity. What do you think about his statements? Let us know in the comments below!
