Our parents have always warned us not to get too addicted to the TV as they feel that it is bad for us. However, when the recent SPM results were released today (March 14), one student proved that watching all those TV dramas may be beneficial after all.

Based on a report by Sinar Harian, Muhammad Afwan Syahmi Md Adnan, 18, scored 9A’s for his SPM exam and attributed his success to South Korean dramas. The SMK Puncak Alam student said that he was so inspired by the “greatness” of the doctors in these dramas that he wanted to be like them.

He is the third child among four siblings and he told the news portal that he would frequently study in front of the TV while watching his Korean dramas or cooking shows. This boy can multitask! “I like to study while watching TV because this is the only way for me to focus. I don’t like a quiet atmosphere (when studying). There must be some background noise otherwise I can’t do my exercises,” Muhammad Afwan said.

“I have always been interested in Science and like to see dramas that feature great doctors that help save people’s lives. From these dramas, I was inspired to become a successful doctor just like those in the movies,” he continued.

This brilliant student has other role models in life which includes Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Al Masrie, our national astronaut as he wants to be like him as well. “I want to be just like him and to be even better than my siblings who are already in university with their preferred fields of study. We have to respect our teachers and be hardworking in doing our homework and exercises as well as tuition because I am a studious person,” he explained.

Nevertheless, he said that he was thankful to Allah for his results and said that his secret to success was due to Allah.

Looks like watching dramas may not be as bad as you think, parents!
