If you’re feeling the heat right now in Peninsular Malaysia then you’re not imagining it because we are in the midst of a heatwave, based on a report by MetMalaysia. What’s more, the heatwave is expected to hit temperatures as high as 36.9°C  for at least three days straight starting from Sunday (Feb 24).

This heatwave is based on their records on Feb 24 that will be updated daily and is classified as Level One. There will be 10 areas in Peninsular Malaysia that will be affected, with temperatures that will range from 35°C to 36.9°C. 

These are the areas:

  1. Chuping, Perlis
  2. Kubang Pasu, Kedah
  3. Kota Sertar,
  4. Kedah Sik, Kedah
  5. Hulu Perak, Perak
  6. Kuala Kangsar, Perak
  7. Kinta, Perak
  8. Maran, Pahang
  9. Kepong, Kuala Lumpur
  10. Muar (Johor)

The status MetMalaysia posted on Facebook has since been shared over 3,000 times with many netizens commenting on the post. Some said that this could even cause heatstroke and warned others to be careful by staying in the shade and drinking more water. Some of the symptoms of heatstroke include altered mental state or behavior such as delirium, nausea, high body temperature, headache and rapid breathing.

In case you notice anyone who looks like they are experiencing heatstroke, here are some things you can do to immediately cool down their temperature while waiting for emergency treatment: Make sure to get the person indoors and bring down their body temperature by removing excess clothing or cooling them down with water or ice.

Stay safe, people and drink loads of water!
