According to the Malay Mail, these durians are first wrapped in aluminium foil before being roasted over charcoal for 45 minutes. No wonder these durians are lit! However, do take note that they’re not meant to be eaten right away; instead, you should allow it to cool down first.

If you’re interested to have a taste, then pop by Jalan Gaya Food Night Market in Kota Kinabalu where the roasted durians are selling for RM60. The brains behind this durian twist is Dennis Chan, who said he came up with the idea when he was inspired by a nearby stall that sold roasted young coconuts.

His idea may have been lingering in his mind four years ago but it wasn’t until recently that he began selling the roasted durians. That said, it sure sounds like it’s a big hit because even tourists are loving it!

“Since I started trading here last month, the roasted durians have been popular among tourists from China, South Korea and some local durian lovers,” Dennis said.

Dennis’ stall currently operates from 6pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays at the Jalan Gaya Food Night Market, which is also known as the Api-Api Food Market @ Gaya Street. Take note if you want to pay his stall a visit! He also sells a variety of other food and drinks for customers to enjoy.

With all the hype surrounding roasted durians, what do you guys think the next durian trend is going to be? Tell us in the comments!
