Remember the spicy ramen challenge that went super viral not too long ago? Well, it isn’t the healthiest thing to do on a regular basis, especially if you have a weak stomach!

A husband recently shared on Facebook about how his wife had suffered from severe stomach ache after eating the spicy ramen for nearly every week. This incident happened three years ago but was only posted on 15 September 2018 as a reminder for netizens.

Here’s what the husband wrote.

“My wife would finish the entire bowl without drinking a sip of water and she said it wasn’t spicy at all. I was indeed impressed by her (spiciness tolerance). In the end, RM10,000 was spent on one night to insert a camera into her stomach to identify the cause of her stomach ache, as she was going through excruciating pain.”

The husband went on saying that the camera and X-ray both showed the wound on the intestine lining linked to the frequent intake of extremely spicy food. Just so you know, the ramen we’re talking about here is the 2 times spicier version.

Although the wound was small, it was dangerous because the intestines are always wet and therefore it’s difficult for healing to take place.

We did some research and found out that spice can actually contribute to the increase of acid secretion and reduce the strength of the gastritis mucosal barrier, which in turn damages the stomach wall. You can read up more about this here.

Understandably, spicy ramen is delicious and addictive. However, just because your mouth can tahan doesn’t mean your stomach feels the same way! Remember, moderation is the key guys!
