Dubbed “The World’s Happiest Animal”, quokkas can be seen roaming freely around the island. Measuring around the size of a cat and with a tail of a rat, this nocturnal marsupial can only be found in Rottnest Island and a handful of small islands nearby. They have little fear of humans and it is common for them to approach you closely to say hi. By the way, they are SO DAMN CUTE WEH!

What to expect:

  • It’s actually illegal for us to handle these little munchkins in any way and that includes feeding them! In fact, you can be fined up to RM900.
  • But no worries, taking a selfie with them is totally fine!
  • Besides Quokkas, Rottnest Island is also home to 63 beaches where you can snorkel in the clear waters to see an abundance of marine life.
  • Crystal clear sea that’ll absolutely take your breath away!

Pro-tips:

  • When exploring the island, stick to trails and stay away from cliff edges!
  • Always carry ample drinking water and also a first aid kit in case of emergency.
  • Rottnest Island is only a short 30-minute ferry ride from Fremantle.

An awe-inspiring natural rock formation that is shaped like a tall breaking ocean wave, Wave Rock is actually the north side of a solitary hill. As amazing as these pictures are, it doesn’t actually do Wave Rock justice. It’s simply STUNNING and you simply have to see it in person to truly appreciate its beauty!

What to expect:

  • Wave rock is 15 metres tall and 100 metres long, and resembles a wave that’s frozen in time as if on the verge of crashing.
  • The Wave is an overhanging wall on the northern side of a granite formation known as Hyden Rock.
  • There is a Mulka Cave near the Wave Rock with Aborigines paintings inside!
  • Nights here are absolutely gorgeous with shimmering stars lighting up the dark skies; perfect for stargazing!

Pro-tips:

  • If you want to take pictures, the best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon in order to avoid the crowd.
  • There is a small entry fee of around RM30, but it’s free if you’re staying in the nearby caravan park.

Nope, that’s not an Instagram filter! Hutt Lagoon is a salt-lake near the Hutt River that’s famous for its water being naturally pink in colour. Dazzling and breathtaking, the lake got its pink hue due to a unique chemical process by micro-algae called Dunaliella salina that’s native to the lake.

What to expect:

  • Hutt Lagoon is about 14km long, 2km wide and about 1 metre deep throughout.
  • The micro-algae actually produces tonnes of beta-carotene, a versatile pigment used in everything from ice cream to nutritional supplements for pregnant women.
  • That’s why the lagoon is actually used to farm Dunaliella salina for their beta-carotene produce.

Pro-tips:

  • Take a plane flyover trip package over Hutt Lagoon for the most stunning visual experience!
  • The lake’s pink hue changes depending on the time of the year with it being most pink during the wet season.
  • As tasty as it looks, you can’t drink the lake water!
  • There are a lot of spots along the Hutt Lagoon where you can park and walk to the edge, but look out for a spot named “Port Gregory lookout point” for the best view!

Source: big4

Stretching almost 2km out to sea, this is the longest wooden jetty in the world! It actually takes almost half an hour to reach the end of the pier, but it’s definitely worth it for the view itself!

What to expect:

  • Stunning beautiful sunset across the Indian Ocean.
  • There’s a cool jetty train ride that will take you to the end of the pier and back for RM41.
  • You can also go scuba diving and it is considered one of Australia’s best diving site!
  • There’s an entrance fee of RM12 which lets you dive, fish, swim or walk the jetty!
  • If you don’t want to get wet, there’s also an underwater observatory at the end of the jetty for RM102!

Trivia:

  • The Jetty was originally built as a way to transport timber from ships due to them not being able to navigate the shallow waters of the Geographe Bay.
