PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing treatment for severe prolapsed disc after he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance yesterday. He had just come back from Turkey when the PKR leader complained of shoulder and back pain. He wasn’t able to move!

According to The Malaysian Insight Nur Izzah has said it was serious. A statement from his family said doctors were currently monitoring and evaluating his condition.

“His family is with him at the moment and remains grateful for all the concern, prayers and support received.

“We have been advised to request that our father not receive any visitors as he undergoes the necessary observation and treatment,” the statement read.

Anwar and his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is the current deputy prime minister, were supposed to have attended a Hari Raya open house hosted by PKR’s Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and Taman Medan state assemblyman Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri.

A prolapsed disc, also commonly known as a slipped disc, often causes sudden, severe lower back pain. The disc often presses on a nerve root which can cause pain among other symptoms.

Anwar has also previously undergone treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital before his release from jail on May 16. He had underwent a surgery on his right shoulder in March.

He had also undergone an “arthroscopic” treatment in November last year, two months after he was involved in an accident when an escort vehicle had hit the back of the prison car transporting him from Hospital Kuala Lumpur back to the Sungai Buloh Prison, where he served his jail sentence.

We hope that Anwar feels better soon and gets as much rest as he needs!

UPDATE:  Wan Azizah has told The Malaysian Insight that he is better. “I saw him before I came here. He is better. Continue with your prayers and support,” Wan Azizah said at the Selangor state-level Hari Raya open house in Shah Alam. She says he will recover soon and continue his endeavors.
