An 81-year-old man was detained after being suspected of living with a 69-year-old woman at a house in Lubuk China, Melaka, on Monday night (3 November).

According to a report by Sinar Harian, it is understood that the raid, which took place at around 10 PM, was carried out by an Imam, the head of the village, police officers and villagers, before informing the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM).

A source from the mosque community of the village explained that the elderly man’s wife had passed away last month, and that the elderly man, who is a businessman, was often seen going out with the woman involved in this incident.

“Residents had previously reprimanded the elderly couple involved for their actions, as they were often seen going out together. But, they did not live together in the house. It was just that, when the raid was carried out, only the 2 of them were in the house,” they said.

The couple was taken to the religious office for further investigations under Section 53 of the Melaka State Syariah Offences Enactment 1991 for cohabiting without marriage.
