A 57-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 went out to ‘spread the virus’ but died a few days later.

According to The Star, the man from Gamagori, Japan was diagnosed with the illness on 4th March, a day after his parents, whom he lived with, tested positive.

He was asked to stay home on 4th March but instead, he went out to a izakaya – a type of Japanese bar – and spent 15 minutes there before going to a Filipino pub for about 40 minutes and sang karaoke, SCMP reported.

The local authorities said they did not have power to prohibit him from going out.

At the pub, he put his arm around a female server who later tested negative for the virus. However, her colleague tested positive later on, according to officials from Toyota City, where the infected woman lives.

On 5th March, the man was admitted to the hospital and on 18th March he was declared dead. He also had hepatocellular cancer.

Both the izakaya and the Filipino pub have temporarily suspended their businesses from March 4th, with the pub manager filing a damage report to authorities last Friday.

Japan now has a total of 943 cases including 191 recoveries and 33 deaths at the time of writing.
