39yo M’sian Teacher Slaps His Students, Pulls Their Hair & Throws Chair at Them, Gets Fined RM4,900

A 39-year-old teacher in Muar, Johor, was fined RM4,900 by the Muar Magistrate Court today for causing injuries to four of his students, all aged 14 years old.

The accused, Mohd Shapril Ahmad, pleaded guilty to 4 charges at the court today, 3 under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and 1 under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation.

The accused

According to Harian Metro, the teacher, who is also a father of 4, was charged with 3 counts of voluntarily causing hurt to 3 of his students by slapping and throwing a chair at them. 

The incident took place on 13 November 2024 at around 8.30am inside a classroom of a secondary school in the district.

Meanwhile, for the 4th charge, the accused was charged with using criminal force on another student at the same location and place by hitting the back of the latter’s head and shoving a crumpled paper into the student’s mouth.

Based on the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the parents of the 4 victims received a call from the school principal informing them that their children were hit by the accused.

The incident occurred while the accused was teaching a class, that the 4 victims attended. Concerned about their children’s safety, the victims’ parents then lodged a police report at the Muar District Police Headquarters.

The teacher was then arrested by the police on 14 November at 3pm to assist with the investigation.

 

The teacher will be jailed for 13 months if he fails to pay the fine

During sentencing, Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar reprimanded the accused, saying that what he did was not the proper way to discipline his pupils.

She asserted,

“This is not the way to discipline students, you should set a good example to them but not like this.”

For the 3 charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code, the accused could’ve faced up to 1 year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Meanwhile, the charge under Section 352 of the Penal Code could’ve landed him up to 3 months in jail, a fine up to RM1,000, or both.

With the sentencing, the Magistrate Court also ordered the accused to undergo 13 months in jail if he failed to settle the RM4,900 fine.
