A 33-year-old man was detained at the Penang International Airport after he was suspected to be infected with Covid-19 yesterday (8th March) at 3pm.

In a Facebook post on Penang Kini, the man is believed to be from China and was showing symptoms of high fever during the early screening.

The suspect was brought to quarantine at Penang General Hospital for further inspection.

Airport cleaners immediately started cleaning areas in the airport that the man likely came into contact with.

In January 2020, Malaysia issued a temporary travel ban on Chinese nationals arriving from Wuhan and all other provinces put under lockdown by the Chinese government, according to CNA.

However, we do not know which part of China this suspected patient came from or which flight he was on.

Netizens expressed their concerns with some asking why Chinese nationals are still allowed into the country while others were more concerned about the other passengers that were in the same flight as the suspected patient.

Let’s hope this man from China tests negative for the Covid-19 virus. We certainly do not need added cases in our country.Ā
