How many of your mothers or grandmothers are avid collectors of the glassware brand Corning Ware? You know, those really nice glass pots that they will only use when there’s a special occasion, or when they make a really good soya sauce braised chicken for the family, that kind of pot. It’s usually white, and it’s usually decorated with some floral patterns, right?
Well, if you still have them in your house somewhere in the kitchen cabinets, you might want to advise your ah ma or mummy to consider selling them online, because apparently, vintage versions of Corning Ware glass pots can fetch up to USD $12,000 (RM 49,256.40) on Ebay, according to Better Homes & Gardens!
But not all Corning Ware pots are made the same, so you have to check and see if yours is a collector’s item. Each Corning Ware pot is usually decorated with a floral pattern, and that is the deciding factor in how much your Corning Ware piece will fetch.
The Cornflower range, featuring a soft blue floral design, is the most common pattern and can already net you a tidy amount. But even rarer designs like Wildflower (made from 1977 to 1984) and Floral Bouquet (made from 1971 to 1975), are even more sought after and as a result, fetch much higher prices.
“One piece of CorningWare, in a pattern not widely produced, sold on eBay recently for $US7,000 (RM 28,732.90),” says glass expert Dean Six.
“It was a 1970s product that fizzled.”
So faster lah, go and see which Corning Ware that your grandmum or mum owns, because you never know you might be sitting on a nest of literal gold!
