If you’re an active Twitter user, you may have come across a viral video of a young woman licking a tub of ice cream and placing it back in the fridge at a supermarket.

The video, which surfaced on social media on 29th June, began to quickly circulate, with many netizens condemning the act. However, what’s even more alarming is that it also started a trend, encouraging people to tamper with items at their local supermarkets.

Now, according to the New York Post, police in Texas in the United States believe they have identified the woman who began the disturbing trend. The authorities reportedly obtained CCTV footage of a woman matching the suspect’s description and are currently waiting to verify her identity before issuing an arrest warrant.

Once she is arrested, she will be charged with second-degree tampering with a consumer product, which according to U.S. law, carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of up to USD $10,000 (approx RM41,355).

Police are also pursuing another suspect, who can be heard encouraging the woman to lick the ice cream in the video.

Well, let’s hope that the authorities thoroughly investigate this case and issue a just punishment if the suspects are found guilty.

We hope this goes without saying, but please don’t take part in this viral trend and contaminate products that unsuspecting people may purchase!
