She was enjoying her holiday with her friends in the Philippines last February when they saw a cute puppy by the side of the road. Birgitte Kallestad decided to pick the puppy up and brought it back to their resort.
She washed it, spent time with it and according to her family, as reported by The Washington Post, fell in love with it even when the puppy bit her.
Sadly, saving the puppy led to her demise. She passed away on Monday (6th May) in her hometown in Norway after contracting the rabies virus.
Her family also explained that when she fell ill, the doctors were struggling to determine the reason behind her illness. After several trips to the emergency room, she was finally admitted to the hospital on 28th April.
When they detected that she may have had developed rabies after learning of her vacation incident, it was too late. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Sometimes we need to be wary of our actions, even if we have the best intentions. Please approach with care as we do not know the diseases that these animals are carrying. Be safe ok?
