Malaysian food has always been recognised internationally for its amazing taste and variety. It has even led some overseas food content creators to try out to make our famous dishes.
In a recent TikTok post that has taken the platform by storm, popular American food content creator Newt who is famous for making various meals at home crafted the beloved Malaysian dish, Nasi Lemak. In the video, he shared that an unexpected encounter with a Malaysian named Khalif and his family in Kyoto inspired him to take on the challenge.
He captioned the video, “It was lovely running into you and your family in Kyoto! Please tell your mom that she’s a liar, making this was not easy. My grocery list was 16 items.”
In the video, he could be seen preparing the take up the challenge by starting by grinding the spices of garlic and ginger into a paste which he uses to marinate his chicken.
He then proceeds to make the sambal and even includes belacan in it. After successfully cooking the sambal and the rice, as well as frying the chicken, Newt goes on to plate the dish with the final product that looks pretty authentic!
Following the success, Malaysians have since flooded the post with praises for the authenticity of his nasi lemak.
“I’m from Malaysia and that actually looks really good and authentic.”
“As a Malaysia, that looks hella good. And you even have the anchovies and belacan in the sambal,” commented another user.
