Recently, a video of a group of children saying their final goodbyes to their mother, who is believed to be a Covid-19 patient, went viral on social media.
In the heartbreaking video, hospital staff started a video call with the children as it was time to say goodbye to their mother. Only the painful cries of grief from the other family members could be heard in the video as their mother laid on the hospital bed, barely able to keep her eyes open.
“Mum, open your eyes, wake up, say hello,” said a woman tearfully. She is believed to be one of the patient’s daughters.
According to Harian Metro, the woman is a patient at the Shah Alam Hospital and passed away moments later.
The son-in-law of the woman shared the heartbreaking video on social media to create awareness of how serious Covid-19 is.
“Today, May 24 at 4.45am, my beloved mother-in-law passed away. She died at the Shah Alam Hospital. She died of Covid-19. Three weeks in the ICU (intensive care unit) due to shortness of breath and needed oxygen assistance.
“So, the reason why Covid infected her is that my sister-in-law got it through her office friend. My sister-in-law met my mother-in-law, kissed her hand, and was chatting with her closely. When my sister-in-law went for a swab test, she was tested positive for Covid-19,” the man explained.
“Took my mother-in-law for a test and was tested positive. Could only fight through for three weeks before passing away. So be careful, friends,” he added.
The man also explained that doctors would make video calls to the family members when the patient’s oxygen levels were too low. As they are unable to visit patients at the hospital, this was the only way they could say their goodbyes.
May she rest in peace.
