A recent incident caught attention after a video showed moviegoers at a Kuala Lumpur mall evacuating the cinema when the fire alarm went off.

In a Threads post shared by @sirahmad_nyonya, she said the incident happened on December 8 around 10 PM, after someone allegedly triggered the fire alarm.

“No idea which clueless person pulled the fire alarm”

According to Nina, everyone who was watching a movie and even those who were just about to start theirs were affected and had to leave the hall.

“No idea which clueless person went and pressed the fire alarm. Because of that, everyone had to walk out, and those about to watch their movie got interrupted too. A lot of people ended up asking for refunds. Malaysia, we really don’t need this kind of attitude,” she wrote.

Thankfully, Nina later explained in the comments that the cinema manager had announced refunds for all affected customers.

Meanwhile, a second video showed a cinema staff member explaining the reason behind the evacuation.

“There was a customer who accidentally touched the fire alarm. Because of that, the alarm went off and everything shut down automatically,” the staff member said.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the management of Mid Valley Megamall has confirmed that the evacuation did take place.

“We can confirm that an evacuation was carried out by the cinema within their premises. They have addressed and explained the matter to the affected patrons,” the said.

We have also reached out to the cinema’s management for comment but have yet to receive a response.

Netizens started flooding the comment section with their thoughts and reactions.

“How could someone press the fire alarm unless they broke the glass?”

“You also need to check the nearby smoke detectors. Sometimes it’s hard to break the glass. Usually, if it’s the type that triggers the alarm easily, even just smoke can set it off. Normally, in a mall, even someone vaping can trigger the alarm. Or maybe the smoke detector was dusty. Or did someone actually break the glass?”

“If there’s CCTV, track down the culprit until they’re found.”

“This kind of thing needs strict action. Fine them 10 times the loss, jail time, and blacklist them from all cinemas. The person’s act is foolish.”

“Find the culprit and make them pay double the total tickets sold that night.”
