Love can make one do many things and sometimes, those things might not make sense.
On 23 March, a Thai fisherman saw a person on an unidentified rubber boat 80KM west of the coast of Phang Nga Bay and 14KM away from the Similan Islands. Thinking it was strange, the fisherman proceeded to report the discovery to the Thai navy.
When the authorities went to check, they found that the person in the rubber boat is a Vietnamese national named Ho Hoang Hung, reported Sin Chew Daily.
After some questioning, it turns out that Ho had wanted to row his little rubber boat from Phuket all the way to Mumbai, India just to see his wife whom he had not seen for the past 2 years due to the pandemic.
In his boat, they found that he had just packed some instant noodles and a few bottles of water, he also did not have a map which would explain why he was still in Phuket after 18 days of rowing.
On 2 March, Ho took a flight from Ho Chin Minh City to Mumbai but it transits in Bangkok, when he reached the Thai capital, he was told that he needed to have a visa to enter India, which he did not apply for.
Driven by his longing for his wife, he concocted another plan. So he took a bus from Bangkok to Phuket and bought a rubber boat there. On 5 March, he set out from the beach of Phuket and wanted to row 2,016KM to see his wife.
When the Thai navy discovered him, he was 18 days into the rowing journey.
Thankfully the authorities managed to find him before he got too far. Even though this is for the sake of love, it is too dangerous to go out on the open sea with minimal supplies and no sense of direction.
