In a recent announcement released by the Ministry of Health (MOH), they denied claims that the suicide that took place at the Serdang Hospital was related to COVID-19.

Announced by MOH’s Director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah via Twitter account @KKMPutrajaya, the recent announcement debunked previous claims made by the media mentioning that a male patient admitted to Serdang Hospital for self-isolation was found dead yesterday evening (27 March 2020) in the toilet of ward 7D.

In his announcement, the Director-general writes, “Media reports stating that a COVID-19 patient committed suicide were false.”

“There was however a suicide, but it did not involve a COVID-19 patient.”

Netizens commenting on the announcement mentions the need for authorities to take action against those who reported on the incident for spreading the fake news.

The information in this story is accurate as of press time. However, as the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, it’s possible that some data have changed since publication.
