AirAsia has updated their cabin baggage policy as of 7 July 2020, where passengers will be allowed two (2) pieces of cabin baggage (cabin bag and laptop/small bag) not exceeding a total of 7kg in weight.

For the two (2) pieces of baggage that passengers are allowed to carry:

Cabin bag

  • Must not exceed the dimensions of 56cm (H) X 36cm (W) X 23cm (D) or maximum linear of 115cm
  • Must fit in the overhead storage compartment in the aircraft cabin

Laptop bag or small bag

  • Must not exceed the dimensions of 40cm (H) X 30cm (W) X 10cm (D) or maximum linear of 80cm
  • Must fit under the seat in front of you

The weight of the two bags in total must not exceed 7kg.

Previously, AirAsia’s baggage policy only allowed passengers to carry on board ONE piece of cabin baggage which can be either one (1) laptop bag, one (1) handbag or one (1) small bag. This saw several passengers missing their flights as they weren’t allowed to board the plane.

However, the policy has since changed and will take effect starting 7 July 2020.

This new cabin baggage policy implemented by AirAsia is “to ensure social distancing between guests during embarkation and disembarkation.”

“At AirAsia, the health and wellbeing of our passengers remain our paramount concern,” they said in their website.

AirAsia advises guests to “arrive early at the airport – preferably 3 hours before departure to allow for enough time for all the necessary processes to take place.”

“Besides complying with the advice and regulations from government and health authorities, AirAsia has also implemented end-to-end contactless procedures and a series of new safety measures, as well as taking care of those most at risk to ensure the safety of all travelling guests.”
