Criminals used to operate in the wee hours of the morning when there’s less crowd, but that’s no longer the case.
On 1 November, a 22-year-old university student was shockingly raped and robbed in Shah Alam. The incident took place at around 8.30pm, as reported by Oriental Daily.
In a recent press conference, Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said,
“During the time of the incident, the victim had just finished browsing through a night market and was walking towards a bus stand to catch a bus home.
“However, a man driving a car approached the victim and pretended to ask for directions.”
The victim did not suspect anything amiss and was nice enough to provide assistance. However, when she was pointing out the directions for him, the culprit suddenly held her at knifepoint before pulling her into his car.
The frightened victim had no choice but to be dragged into the suspect’s car as she feared she would get hurt if she retaliated.
“The suspect then drove to a secluded industrial area near an apartment in Section 7, Shah Alam. He then raped her in the car and took her smartphone and cash worth RM100.
“He abandoned the victim at the scene and sped off in his car,” Shafien said.
Following the incident, the victim proceeded to a police station to lodge a report. Accompanied by the police, she had also undergone a physical examination at a hospital in Shah Alam.
Netizens, especially ladies, were horrified upon reading this news as many of them would frequent the night market in their area.
“Please avoid walking alone no matter the time of day as criminals nowadays are brave enough to commit crime even in crowded areas,” a netizen commented.
The police have since set up a team to investigate and track down the suspect.
We hope the suspect can be hunted down as soon as possible before he gets to his next victim. Stay safe out there ladies!
Update: The police raided the suspect’s apartment at 4am this morning (3 November) and nabbed him. It was found that the suspect is an ex-convict and currently working part-time as a Grab driver. The case will be further investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 392/397 for armed robbery.
