We’re sure you’ve heard of those instances where smartphones get stolen, but the thieves weren’t aware that their photos would sync with the owner’s iCloud. Now, it looks like some thieves haven’t learnt from this because a similar case just happened right here in Malaysia!
According to a Facebook post that went viral last week, a young man was seen stealing an iPhone from a lady in what looks like a mobile phone shop.
CCTV footage shows the man talking to the woman, who seems to be an employee at the establishment. It appears that he was posing as a customer so he could catch her off guard.
After a few seconds of talking to her, the man suddenly ran out of the shop with the woman’s phone in hand. The woman and her colleague appear in shock and immediately try to run out after him, but it was too late.
However, thanks to the wonders of technology, the lady did manage to recover all the data, photos and other important information she had on her stolen phone with the help of iCloud. To her surprise, she also found some photos taken by none other than the thief who stole her phone!
In the selfies, the thief and his friend can be seen smiling from ear-to-ear, seemingly happy with his latest “find”. An excerpt from the Facebook post reads,
“It’s a good thing the owner had iCloud so she could see the face of the guy who stole her phone. She nearly caught the man and his friend around the Taman Rinting area. Unfortunately, they threatened her with a knife so she could not get it back.”
“So, be careful if you see these two near your area because they are armed. Please report them to the police if you see them. We think they go on standby in any area they plan on robbing, so keep a lookout and report them to the authorities if you see them.”
We hope these thieves get caught soon. Meanwhile, stay safe out there, everyone!
