Malaysia is already hot enough, but unfortunately, it’s only going to get hotter this month.

Hence, it’s important to ensure we all stay healthy and hydrated through the immense heat.

Considering there is a heat wave coming our way, the Ministry of Health (KKM) took to their Twitter page to share ways we can remain safe and healthy while sweating bullets.

Heat 1

They wrote, “A HEAT WAVE is a period of unusually high temperatures that exceed average maximum temperatures with relatively hot weather conditions. In Malaysia, a heat wave is defined when the daily maximum temperature exceeds 37 Degrees Celsius for 3 consecutive days and usually occurs in March to April.”

Considering we’re reaching that period, here KKM’s advice on keeping cool throughout the heat wave:

Heat 2

  • Wear a hat or use an umbrella to protect yourself from direct heat radiation to the body.
  • Drink plenty of plain water regardless of the level of physical activity.
  • Use a fan or air conditioning to cool down.
  • Wear light, pale-colored and loose clothing.
  • Do not sit in a closed vehicle without air conditioning.
  • Spend more time indoors and limit outdoor activities.
  • Reduce drinking caffeinated, alcoholic and sugary drinks.

“The public is advised to follow the instructions issued by the authorities and follow the development of weather conditions issued by MetMalaysia. Do follow health guidelines to maintain your health throughout the heat wave season as a reminder,” KKM added.

So, stay hydrated and keep clear of the heat that’s coming our way! Oh, and if you are planning on going outside, don’t forget your sunscreen!
