The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has stepped up enforcement against heavily modified vehicles in Kuala Lumpur.
During Ops Extreme on 6 September, JPJ Director General YBhg. Dato’ Aedy Fadly bin Ramli said a total of 485 notices were issued for various offences.
Multiple cars found modified with air suspension
Aedy Fadly added that action was taken against vehicles found to be heavily modified or not in compliance with the required specifications, following complaints from the public.
“JPJ is stepping up enforcement against vehicles that have been excessively modified or do not comply with the required specifications, following public complaints about noise disturbances, public nuisance and safety risks to road users,” the statement read.
In the photos included in the post, several vehicles could be seen with various modifications, including air suspension, also known as ‘air ride’. (The system uses air springs instead of a car’s factory shocks and struts, allowing drivers to adjust the vehicle’s ride height.)
“Public roads aren’t a place to show off your modified cars”
JPJ also reminded road users that public roads are not the place to show off extreme vehicle modifications.
During the operation, JPJ took the following enforcement actions:
- 156 vehicles were inspected
- 97 vehicles were issued enforcement action
- 485 notices were issued for various offences
- 37 cars were seized
“Strict action will continue to be taken against any vehicle that does not comply with the law and could compromise public safety and order,” Aedy Fadly said.
