FDS Crash: Sarawak Govt Gives RM100k to Each Victim’s Family & Covers Their Children’s Education Fees

On 8 September, a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter (BO-105) carrying five people, including the pilot, was reported to have crashed and caught fire near Long Lellang Airport in Ulu Baram.

The crash tragically claimed the lives of the pilot and four Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel, as reported by Harian Metro.

Sarawak government provides financial aid to victims’ families

According to Berita Harian, the personnel were carrying out an important duty by bringing much-needed healthcare services to communities in remote areas that are difficult to reach by road.

Following the tragic incident, the Sarawak Government announced a RM100,000 contribution for the family of each FDS personnel who died in the crash.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg also announced that the state government would fully cover the education fees of the deceased personnel’s children who are still in school through Yayasan Sarawak.

“They dedicated themselves to ensuring that people, regardless of their location or circumstances, continued to have access to the healthcare services they needed.”

The Sarawak Government also expressed its deep sorrow over the loss and extended its condolences to the families and next of kin of the victims.

 

“Their dedication will always be remembered”

The Sarawak Government said the loss of the personnel was deeply felt, not only by their families and colleagues, but also by communities across Sarawak, particularly those in rural areas who relied on their services.

It said their dedication, courage and sacrifices in bringing healthcare to people in remote areas were deeply valued, adding that their contributions would not be forgotten.

“Their contributions, dedication, courage and sacrifices in carrying out their duties for the well-being of the people, particularly those in rural areas, are immensely valuable. The personnel’s commitment to serving the community would always be remembered.” it said.
