A recent post has been making the rounds online after a local doctor shared an incident that has sparked outrage among many netizens.

Aesthetic doctor and general practitioner Dr Chok Jun Hoong (@dr.chokjunhoong) took to Threads to share an incident involving his friend (Friend A), who vented to him about how doctors were allegedly being provided with only meagre meals at their workplace while working on-call.

Comparison meals provided to local and overseas doctors

Dr Chok went on to share that Friend A had been working at a public hospital in Kuala Lumpur and claimed that they were given only a few slices of bread and some jam for breakfast after working overtime.

“Bro, see. This is how they treat us doctors. Our breakfast during overtime is a few pieces of bread with jam that isn’t enough, and we have to share it among ourselves. Why can’t they at least provide food similar to what the patients get?” Friend A told Dr Chok.

Dr Chok then compared this with another friend working overseas, who had shared a photo of the meal provided before starting work. The meal included a cup of hot drink, a glass of water, and a pastry.

“Friend B from outside Malaysia sent this to me and said, ‘Bro, this is what the clinic admin will prepare for me before I start work.'”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dr Chok said he hopes doctors in Malaysia can at least be provided with meals similar to those given to patients.

The post has since prompted netizens to call out the Ministry of Health (MOH), with many expressing outrage over how doctors are allegedly being treated.

“Why is MOH so heartless? These doctors are working hard to save lives, so can’t they at least provide them with proper meals instead of just bread or dry biscuits?”

“MOH, please look into the food tender again. Who knows, maybe the budget is there, but there are too many layers of subcontractors involved.”

“Very upsetting to see. The government should review the quality of food provided to MOH staff. Is too much emphasis being placed on cost-cutting when it comes to food tenders for MOH?”
