Thailand will open its borders to fully vaccinated international travellers from any country starting 1 November 2021, reported Reuters.

This move is in line with efforts to boost the nation’s tourism after 18 months of strict entry policies while increasing the rate of vaccinations.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said in a statement that fully vaccinated foreign tourists visiting Phuket, Surat Thani, Phang-Nga and Krabi will only have to quarantine for seven days, as compared to the previous 14-day period, before moving to other parts of Thailand.

This reduced quarantine period begins on 1 October and applies to individuals visiting the nation under the ‘Sandbox’ programme to Phuket, Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao), Phang-Nga (Khao Lak and Ko Yao), and Krabi (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai and Railay Beach).

Thailand has also removed the list of approved countries and welcomes travellers from any country in the world to the ‘Sandbox’ programme.

This is certainly good news for Malaysians as international travel will soon be allowed sometime in December 2021, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Yes, December. It may be even earlier. We will open up the state borders to enable them to be crossed. Travel to other countries will also be opened up after we reach the 90% vaccination rate,” he said.
