The Terengganu State Government is planning on enforcing Syariah-friendly clothing ethics in their state, especially involving foreign tourists.
To ensure that tourists, especially foreigners, comply with dress codes that cooperate with tourism operators, aspects of monitoring and enforcement will be implemented.
According to a report by Berita Harian, Terengganu state Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee Chairman, Datuk Razali Idris shared that this will especially be enforced on tourist islands such as Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian, which are the focus of international tourists.
“Syariah-friendly clothing etiquette starts at all entrances to the state. We will also put up signs about this etiquette at all entrances to Terengganu,” he said.
This comes after Ladang assemblyperson, Zuraida Md Noor urged the state government to strengthen the enforcement of Syariah-friendly clothing in an effort to build an understanding with outside visitors regarding their dress code.
She also shared that she is angry when Muslim tourists dare to violate the Tourism Guidelines established by the state government because many still do not know of the existence of the guidelines, on top of weak enforcement.
Datuk Razali admitted that the effort to educate tourists from inside and outside the country regarding ethics is still lacking, causing some to dress conspicuously, especially when traveling to resort islands in the state.
“We are in an effort to empower and educate Muslim tourists from inside and outside the country to comply with dress code,” he added.
