A non-Muslim man was ordered to pay damages to his lover’s husband, for breaking up the couple’s marriage.

A 26-year-old man from Baling, Kedah, was found to have committed adultery with a 32-year-old woman, who is someone’s wife. This also led to her getting pregnant and giving birth to the man’s child.

According to a report by Utusan, the order was made by the Alor Setar High Court Judge Mahazan Mat Taib, after allowed a counter petition filed by the woman’s husband.

Prior to this, in his judgement, Judge Mahazan said that the court takes cheating and adultery seriously, especially if it causes the break up of a family.

He added that the amount of compensation was reasonable, taking into account the negative behaviour of the woman and the man in question.

“The court takes this cheating behaviour seriously because it has affected their family life. Damages amounting to RM30,000 must be paid to the respondent, who is the husband, as a lesson to the general public,” he said.

Earlier, Judge Mahazan in his judgment said that the court takes cheating and adultery seriously to the point that it becomes the cause of family breakdown.

The husband’s lawyer has also since shared that the woman had previously filed a single divorce petition under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976.

The husband then filed a counter-petition, naming the wife’s lover as a party in the proceedings for allegedly cheating with his wife.

“After the counter-petition was submitted, the man in question and the wife of my client left the country and were not present at today’s proceedings. They also did not respond to the counter-petition,” the husband’s lawyer shared.

Now, everyone should think twice before attempting to cheat as you could be dragged to court and order to pay a fine.
