Spare the rod, and spoil the child. Most of us who grew up in an Asian household can relate to this. Very much. We’ve felt the “rotan” kissing our skins but it was the pain that shaped us to be the person we are today.

But is using the road in parenting still effective? In a TikTok video by @zatyqaderr, a police sergeant’s demonstration of using the cane on prisoners seems to be intimating the child visitors. Zaty, as well as other parents, brought their kids to the Malacca Prison Museum but little did they know, the Abang Polis had something else on his mind.

What did we get back then for being disobedient, or playing too much phone? We got the cane (and it wasn’t pleasant at all). This time, the Abang Polis decided to share with the kids about their fate if they continued to be disobedient at home – the cane. The video started with him “reminding” a little girl about playing too many games at home, and Zaty’s son was already not a fan of the scene.

“Still want to play phone at home?” Abang Polis asked the fearful kid.

His facial expression changed as fear and worry struck.

When the Abang Polis suddenly came to him with his cane, Zaty’s son cried and sought shelter behind his father while other kids watched in fear.

Of course, the Abang Polis was not going to hit the kids but his fierce, mustache-y appearance with his cane was enough to strike fear in the kids, and possibly enough to remind them about what happens at home when they indulge themselves with too much screen time.

Did the intimidation work in stopping Zaty’s son from having too much screen time?

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Zaty said that while her son is still asking for a phone from time to time, this time it doesn’t take him long to return the phone to his mother when he’s asked. Well, it’s still a progress!

You can watch the clip below to see the Abang Sargeant in action.

Does this bring you back to those “good old times” when you received your strokes of “rotan” for being disobedient?
