Alongside our athletes who are battling it out at the Paris 2024 Olympics to bring home medals for our country is our Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who is also there to show her support.
However, there is one thing that she has done since she’s been there that Malaysians are not in favour of.
Taking to her Instagram page, Hannah Yeoh posted several pictures of herself with Thailand’s men’s singles shuttler, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who won the silver medal in the finals against Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, after defeating Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the semi-finals.
She wrote, “Congratulations, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, for winning silver in Paris 2024. I enjoy his style of badminton so much. So calm and collected. He has a new fan in me!”
How dare she?
While this could be viewed as a sign of sportsmanship, many Malaysians believe that she, as the Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister, shouldn’t celebrate the victory of others.
They also called her unpatriotic for the display.
“Is this how the Minister of the Youth and Sports Ministry is supposed to be like? So unpatriotic.”
“YB Hannah Yeoh, you are carrying out official duties with the national delegate at the Olympics. So unnecessary to share postings like this. There is a need for respect and common sense for the national badminton team. Do you understand, YB?”
On the other hand, some did defend Hannah Yeoh, calling her post a show of true sportsmanship.
What do you think? Should she have posted the pictures or kept them to herself?
Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
