A Singaporean content creator has revived an age-old debate after urging people to do one thing.
Taking to her TikTok account, Steph Leong called for people to shower in the morning before leaving their homes.
She wrote, “I did consider if I was just more sensitive because I have an acute sense of smell. But, way too many people voted and agreed with me, some even shared their personal stories and it’s nasty. I don’t know, what do y’all think?”
She calls out the Singaporean Chinese
In her video, Steph called out Singaporean Chinese people for allegedly not showering before leaving their homes.
“Guys, please shower before going out, especially Singaporean Chinese! Yes, I’m particularly calling out the Singaporean Chinese because I know so many of y’all will disassociate and claim (those who smell) are foreigners. But, no, it is YOU.”
She went on to explain that many smell like they do not wash their bedsheets for months, on top of not showering before leaving their home.
“It is not your natural scent. Y’all smell like you have not washed your bedsheets in months and you have marinated in months of night sweat and hair oil,” she added.
Steph had also previously done a poll where 74% voted ‘yes, I smell this all the time‘, while 7% voted that they had gotten ‘used to the smell‘ and 19% voted ‘what smell?‘.
“If 74% of the people that participated in my poll agree with me, I think (the smell) is considered a public nuisance, isn’t it?”
Say it louder for Malaysians as well
While many took to her post to further echo her sentiment, some Malaysians pointed out that this call to action is something that is needed in our country as well.
