The hunt for the suspect of the Setia City Mall shooter, also known as “Ah Boy,” ended on Tuesday morning (February 18) after he was shot to death by PDRM officers.

The authorities managed to locate Ah Boy at a hotel in Pulau Ketam, Klang, before the shootout happened, and there is a reason why Ah Boy chose Pulau Ketam. Here’s what Ah Boy’s final hours looked like.

Family in Thailand and a fried chicken meal for the hotel staff

A witness who wished to remain anonymous told the media that Ah Boy spoke to him about finding a boat service to go to Thailand to reunite with his wife and kid. Ah Boy also told the witness that his passport had been blacklisted, which rendered him unable to travel via flight.

Before his death, Ah Boy was also said to have treated the hotel staff to a fried chicken meal.

Hotel staff Cha said he did not suspect anything about Ah Boy and only remembered him as someone in a cap who wanted to stay for three days.

Cha, however, was shocked to hear gunshots in the hotel, and all occupants were asked to vacate the scene for their safety. In the raid conducted by PDRM from Bukit Aman and IPK Selangor, the police had to open fire after Ah Boy started shooting at them.

The 35-year-old Ah Boy, his real name Yap Chin Boon, was on the run for 10 days following the shooting incident at the Setia City Mall, which injured a janitor at the place.
