Anything to support cute doogos!

In 2020, a shelter in Seremban, FurryKids SafeHaven, was devastated by the floods, resulting in the death of multiple dogs. Malaysians then pooled together to help the shelter and the workers homes that were also affected by the flood.

Fast forward to July 2021, the shelter is now looking to raise funds for daily operations and the remaining of their construction work given that they had to move due to the floods. Thus, the shelter will be hosting its first-ever virtual run event as a way to not only raise funds for the doggos but encourage others to stay fit and active within the limits of the SOPs during this lockdown.

Used to solely rely on the support of the public

The project manager for the run, Felicia Ann, spoke to WORLD OF BUZZ saying that as an NGO, they rely solely on support from the public and any fundraising events which the never-ending MCO has put a stop to.

“A virtual run is convenient, safe and flexible to raise badly needed for our shelter that is home to 1,900 dogs. We aim to raise around RM50k through this event.”

What are some pressing expenditures the shelter needs?

The shelter’s monthly expenditures vary between RM90k to RM100k a month. They also need RM200k to complete the construction of the kennels and other touch-up work. Thus, raising around RM50k will definitely come as a relief in pressing areas such as pending medical bills and food for daily consumption.

Since the EMCO and MCO, they saw an almost 30% dip in regular donations which is worrying seeing as they rely on such donations to afford their monthly expenditures. Aside from their usual number of dogs, the shelter also saw an increase in people dumping their dogs to the shelter this year.

Dogs provide emotional support!

If you join the virtual run, you’re not only giving yourself permission to have a break and focus on your wellbeing, you’re also making a stand for stray animals out there.

“FurryKids Safehaven strongly believes in the connection between humans & animals and is constantly raising awareness on the sense of responsibility, compassion and bond between communities and stray animals.”

If you’re interested in joining the run and saving the strays, they currently have an early bird registration which ends on 25 July. What a brilliant initiative by a shelter that challenges you to work on your fitness while making a difference in the lives of these doggos.

For more information on the run, you can visit their Facebook page or contact Felicia directly through her WhatsApp at +6010-9827089. If you plan to donate to the shelter directly, you can do so with the details provided below:
