In 2017, you can hardly get any food from a school canteen with just RM1, but surprisingly, you can still do so at this restaurant!

Das right guys, this eatery is known as Restoran Seringgit and as you would’ve guessed, most of the food and beverages here will only cost you RM1, and the food actually looks pretty decent!

Owner of the restaurant, Ezal Laksamana proposed this idea during a family meeting back in January and has managed to get things going ever since. Ten months into the business, they’ve created a steady stream of customers with over 600 satisfied regulars on a daily basis. Whoa, not bad!

Restoran Seringgit sells Mee Rebus, Soto, Ayam Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Mee Kari, Pulut Mangga and Laksa, all for RM1 only!

Admittedly, the owner said that upholding the quality of the food while keeping the price low is the biggest challenge in running the eatery. For instance, if the fried chicken is of the size of a fish ball, then he’d be cheating his customers, but if the chicken is too big, then he would lose money.

“Balance is the key. The restaurant can only survive in the long run if customers enjoy the food and the restaurant is making money.

“Take this bowl of noodles for instance, all the must-have ingredients such as eggs, bean sprouts and chicken are included.”

The owner specifically set up the restaurant at a rather secluded place to cut cost on rental, and also to prevent affecting the business of other eateries. He doesn’t do promotions; instead, he lets his unbeatable price point and delicious food do the talking.

One of the regular customers is Zheng, who works at a nearby factory. Ever since the opening of the restaurant, he has been having lunch here almost every day. I mean, when the food tastes delicious and the price is more than reasonable, who wouldn’t right?

With just RM3, he is able to get himself a plate of mixed rice with meat and vegetables, including a cup of hot tea!

Perhaps the most heartwarming moment was when an 80-year-old grandma once visited the restaurant and ordered a plate of fried bihun and a cup of Milo for RM2. Of course, she was shocked by the cheap price because that’s an amount she would’ve paid decades ago and not in 2017!

“She held my hand and tears started flowing because she was touched. That’s when I knew my food is helping people and that’s my motivation to keep going,” the owner said.

If you guys are interested to pay them a visit, here’s the info you’ll need:
