On Saturday, 27 January, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong attended a farewell banquet hosted by the Malaysian government in Kuala Lumpur, alongside the Raja Permaisuri Agong, to celebrate his reign before his tenure as King officially ends this coming Tuesday, 30 January. However, a moment from the banquet seems to be making waves online, interestingly, after the banquet had concluded.
In a TikTok video shared by Malaysian artist and performer Raja Ridzwan to his page @rajaridzwan, the creator captured a brief yet touching interaction he and his fellow performers had with the Agong and Permaisuri Agong before they departed from the event. As a member of the Department of Culture & Arts (JKKN) in Johor, Ridzwan and his team has performed at the banquet.
As the duo descended an escalator of the hotel, Ridzwan and his teammates waved goodbye to the Royal couple, before the Agong himself waved and greeted the troop as well. Getting onto the step just behind him, the Permaisuri Agong blew kisses to the dancers while also waving goodbye to them.
It was not until Ridzwan himself held his hand in a finger heart symbol did the Permaisuri Agong reciprocate his gesture, showing the same symbol to the other dancers as well.
Touchingly enough, those with a keen eye who were watching the clip may have noticed that, behind the royal couple, stood the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, and his spouse, Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail, who also waved at the dancers as they descended the escalator. At one point, DSAI blew a kiss to the dance group as well.
Receiving a significant amount of praise, many people were in awe and touched by how friendly not only the King and Queen were, but also by the Prime Minister, as they had been playful yet sweet when interacting with their people.
“This is nice, they are so friendly!” commented one user.
