The perception of royalty around the globe is a polarising one. As figures who represent national unity, one must not forget that just like their people, rulers also have fun hobbies and endearing practices they enjoy carrying out in their own lives.

None other was clearer than a recent Instagram Reel uploaded to the official page of DYMM Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johor, @officialsultanibrahim. There, the ruler shared how he makes one of his confidential yet delicious recipes.

“My recipe is all a secret, very sorry!” said the ruler while chuckling in the clip.

In the video, Sultan Ibrahim displayed how he makes his version of a Japanese lamb curry. Using a big pot over the stove, the ruler tossed in some ingredients seamlessly before stirring them together. Displaying clear comfort in the kitchen, the Sultan was careful yet vigilant when looking over his curry.

At one point, the Sultan threw in a few whole pieces of chilli before giving some tips on creating his curry, saying that more chilli was necessary to invoke spice out of the dish.

Towards the end of the clip, the Sultan tried a bite of his creation and was thoroughly satisfied with it.

Receiving immense praise for his creation, many members of the public commented on how delicious the food looked, with some cheeky Instagram users even asking the Sultan if they could try some.

“Can you imagine if your house was next to the Istana’s gate? Even if you could smell it, that’ll be enough right?” light-heartedly added another user.
