A total of RM7.3 million was received within five days of the bidding for the ‘PPP’ car number plate series.

According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), this series has set the record for the highest revenue ever since JPJ implemented electronic bidding with over 10,000 bids in just five days, reported Sin Chew Daily.

JPJ deputy director-general (strategy and operations) Zamakshari Hanipah said in a press conference today (11 November) that among eight individuals, a businessman managed to obtain the ‘PPP 1’ number plate with the highest bid price of RM260,000.

The number plate ‘PPP 9’ received the second-highest bid of RM160,000 while ‘PPP 6’ received the third-highest bid of RM140,000.

JPJ also recorded the five most popular numbers as follows:

  • PPP 8999 (33 bids)
  • PPP 999 (28 bids)
  • PPP 777 (25 bids)
  • PPP 222 (24 bids)
  • PPP 228 (23 bids)

The ‘PPP’ number plate series bidding deadline was set to end at 11.59pm on 9 November. But due to the heavy traffic on the JPJeBid website, a system failure occurred in the last two hours of the bidding period, according to another report by Sin Chew Daily.

Zamakshari Hanipah said that the chaos over the ‘PPP’ series was extraordinary as it had exceeded the expected target by three times. He said that when the system malfunctioned, emergency repairs had to be carried out for the first time.

“Emergency repair work started quickly, so at 11.50pm on 9 November, the system resumed normal operations,” he said.

He assured that there would be no similar problems in the future electronic biddings, including the ‘KFA’ and ‘PPQ’ series that will be open for bidding at 12am on 12 November.
