Police have opened two investigation papers under Section 506 of the Penal Code following the circulation of a video showing an altercation involving two local men by the roadside at Jalan Sungai Dahaka, Bukit Tengah, Penang.

Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, said they detected the video, which went viral on social media on 27 December, before receiving two police reports from both individuals involved.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the actual incident occurred on 25 December and stemmed from a misunderstanding between two drivers, which later escalated into a verbal argument.

“The altercation is believed to have led to criminal intimidation when one of the men acted aggressively by holding a hockey stick.”

“However, no injuries were reported,” he said in a statement.

Both men arrested

He added that both men have been arrested, and a remand application was made at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court.

“The court allowed both suspects to be remanded for four days until 31 December to assist further investigations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Helmi advised the public to always exercise caution on the road and avoid acting on emotions that could endanger themselves and other road users.

“The public is also reminded not to make any speculations regarding the incident as it could disrupt investigations and compromise public safety,” he added.
