Even as we are currently in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan, Malaysians everywhere are also preparing for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays, which are now less than a month away.

With Hari Raya also comes the annual festive season bonuses, and Penang’s Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow recently announced a special Aidilfitri bonus for civil servants in the state due to the rising cost of living during the festive season, according to The Sun Daily.

The chief minister announced at a press conference today (13th May) that Penang civil servants will receive a bonus of either a half-month salary or a minimum of RM1,000.

RM5.27 million was allocated for these bonuses, which will reportedly benefit 3,905 civil servants in the state.

During the press conference, Chow asked for the cooperation and commitment of all civil servants in the state to ensure that the Penang 2030 Vision goes according to plan.

Meanwhile, the Penang government is also currently reducing its number of civil servants by five per cent over the next three years in line with the federal government’s rationalisation exercise, according to state Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus.

According to the Malay Mail, the state secretary revealed that the government will be cutting its 9,504 civil servants by 475 posts in phases from 2019 to 2021.

Well, it looks like civil servants in Penang have something to look forward to this Raya! What do you think about the Penang government’s move? Let us know in the comments section!
