Most of us probably remember reading about The Phantom of the Opera when we were in secondary school and also watching the movie adaptation in cinemas when it was screened here. It has been reproduced many times in various stage and films adaptations but perhaps the most iconic one would be Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical.
This musical has been touted as the longest running Broadway show but it has never set foot in Malaysia, until now! Yay! Yes, for the first time ever, this award-winning musical will finally be making its way to our shores in 2019. The musical will be held at Istana Budaya for a limited period only and tickets are already on sale at TicketCharge.
The world-famous musical has already won more than 70 major theatre awards and is one of the most successful in entertainment history, playing to over 145 million people in 150 cities across 30 countries. The musical will feature a 37-strong international cast along with a full 12-piece live orchestra playing some of Lloyd Webber’s most famous music, including The Phantom of the Opera, Think of Me and Music of the Night.
In case you forgot, the Phantom of the Opera, an eponymous French novel by Gaston Leroux, involves a love triangle between the Phantom, Christine Daaé and Raoul, and the musical is based on this 1909 novel. The plot revolves around the Phantom, a mysterious, disfigured musical genius lurking in the depths of the Paris Opera House who becomes obsessed with Christine Daaé, a stunning and talented soprano in the opera house.
