It is a gloomy day in Kelantan as tragedy struck this morning at the Jalan Kamunting junction in Pasir Puteh.

A nightmare accident involving 8 vehicles and a group of 21 cyclists has killed at least 1 motorcyclist and caused 1 victim to be severely injured.

The motorcyclist who was killed was a woman in her 30s, while a boy under 12 years old who broke his thigh was believed to be the victim’s son who was also riding on her motorcycle.

Leg 1

The accident occurred today at 9.05am when a high-risk trailer carrying iron beams overturned and crashed into the vehicles.

At the scene, iron beams can be seen sprawled across the road, most weighing down on a Perodua Myvi and a motorcyclist.

Steel Beams

According to Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander, PBK II Siti Nor Raihan Mohamad Harami, the accident is believed to have occurred when the trailer driver failed to control his vehicle, causing it to overturn.

It affected a Toyota SUV, 2 cargo trucks (each carrying steel and sand), 2 motorbikes, 3 cars and 21 cyclists who are staff at the University of Science, Malaysia (USM) and the USM Hospital Kubang Kerian.

Trailer

PBK II Siti Nor Raihan said 13 members with two machines were rushed to the location after receiving information on the accident.

“There were five victims, namely an adult woman who died, a child severely injured, and three others with light injuries,” he added.

Victim

The Pasir Puteh and Tok Bali Fire and Rescue Team and police personnel are still working hard to carry out rescue work and control traffic congestion.

According to Astro Awani, early investigations found that the trailer had problems with its brake.

Such a horrible thing to experience! We hope that the victims will recover well.
