A few days back, local singer Namewee had to endure one of the biggest challenges in his life when all of his videos on his YouTube channel vanished overnight. His account was allegedly hacked by Russian hackers.
2 days ago (6 April), Namewee had finally managed to retrieve all his videos and saved his YouTube account which has been managed for 13 years. In a Facebook post on the same day, he thanked his fans who have been supporting him. However, not everyone was “sold” on the incident as some people claimed that everything that happened was a pure gimmick.
Last night (7 April), Namewee has responded to the allegations via a Facebook post.
“I’ve seen the allegations on social media that claimed I wrote and directed the whole incident. Some also believed it.”
Namewee explained that in order to retrieve his videos and channel, a lot of parties were involved. According to his post, here are the parties that were part of the efforts.
- YouTube HQ in Malaysia
- YouTube Taiwan
- YouTube Aisa
- WebTVAsia
- His colleagues in his company
He said that all these parties combined involved a number of at least 1,000 people and everyone who was involved had put in tremendous efforts just to help save his channel.
“Assuming this was a gimmick, then if 1 person out of the 1,000 people decides to rat me out, then I will be discredited,” he said.
He added that this was his 1st time hearing about such allegations.
To conclude his post, he expressed that the people who chose to believe that everything was purely a gimmick are suffering from brain damage.
“As for the people who came up with these allegations, you’re just lame.”
