“I am very touched by Puan Zaleha’s willingness to sacrifice her beloved bracelet to contribute to the fund to pay for my bail.”

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expressed his gratitude towards Puan Zaleha Bujang, Jasin Wanita Umno chief, after she donated her gold bracelet to the “Free Najib” fund.

The “Free Najib” fund was set up by Umno and Najib supporters to help settle the bail for his corruption trial.

In an interview with mStar, Puan Zaleha revealed that she was also touched by Najib’s tweet, which added to her respect towards the country’s former prime minister.

Puan Zaleha shared a video of her, selling off her bracelet which has garnered more that 300k views and a lot of praises from the masses, but there are also those who criticised her for it.

“Some people said it was better to contribute to the people of Syria, Palestine and Rohingya… I have done that previously. It is my personal right to help anyone,” she said.

From all the 89 branches within the Jasin Umno division, she hopes to collect about RM10,000 which will be handed over to those responsible for the “Free Najib” fund.

According to Datuk Mohd Razlan, a spokeman for Solidarity With Najib Razak, the fundraiser was to help the former Umno president with the payment of RM500,000 bail installment which is due on Monday.

“It is difficult for him to pay the RM1mil bail this coming Monday because we all know, he and his family’s accounts have all been frozen and all the money in his house has been seized,” he added.

He then stated that the fund will be open until Monday at noon and at 1pm the group will deliver the money to court and pay the remaining bail installment.
