Datuk Seri Najib Razak has postponed his trip to Singapore so that he can help UMNO in the Melaka State Elections (PRN) which is scheduled to be held on 20 November.
This is because UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would be absent during the state elections as he would be leaving for Germany to receive treatment for his neck and back from 26 October to 6 December.
“I have been entrusted to ensure that UMNO acts in an orderly and appropriate manner in the campaign during Ahmad Zahid’s absence,” Najib said in a notice of motion and affidavit of support filed yesterday (21 October).
“Therefore, I have to postpone my trip to Singapore until after the state election on 20 November.”
“At the time where I have to carry (out) my duty in Malaysia, I place my trust in my wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor who will push off to Singapore first to monitor Nooryana’s condition while I am still in Malaysia.”
“I will follow… as soon as I complete my obligation here.”
Berita Harian reported that Najib has also applied to amend the date of the release of his passport to 25 October, after which he would need to return his passport to the court on 6 December.
Previously, Najib was allowed to have access to his passport from 20 October to 22 November.
In today’s (22 October) proceedings, Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed the court of his client’s application to amend the date.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul said he would seek further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers regarding the application, after which High Court judge Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan fixed next Tuesday (26 October) for hearing of the application.
Last Friday (15 October), the Kuala Lumpur High Court allowed the application of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor for her passport to be temporarily returned to her so that she can go to Singapore to visit their pregnant daughter.
