A woman in her 40s bravely entered her burning home in Penang to save her pet dog on Monday (December 16).
According to a report by Harian Metro, the incident took place at around 6pm at Hong Seng Farm, Mount Erskine.
The woman shared that her house was already up in flames when she returned home from work. It was then that she was told by her brother that her dog was still inside the house.
“I thought the dog was at the front of the house before I chose to enter. Luckily, it was still alive and we were not injured,” she explained.
Her home was among 7 houses on the farm affected by the fire.
Another victim, 50-year-old Steven Morgan said that he heard a loud explosion before his 16-year-old son spotted smoke.
Confused by what was happening, he rushed to rescue his wife and son without having time to take any important documents with them.
“We did not have time to take any items including identification documents and were only thinking about saving ourselves. Our house was completely destroyed and at this time, I cannot estimate the amount of damages done but thankfully, all my family members and neighbours are safe,” he shared.
While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, it is believed to have started in a house that stores and repairs various electrical equipment.
He further explained that about 4 years ago, a similar incident had caused part of his house to burn down.
“This time, everything has been burnt down, nothing is left and now, I am at a loss as to where to stay. It is understood that the elected representatives are arranging temporary accommodation for all of the victims,” he added.
