Different cultures have different hygiene aspects as to how women have to handle their menstrual cycles and dirty pads.

But, even then, there will always be people who will have their own opinions.

A Malaysian woman took to the SecretsMY Twitter page to question if she’s considered ‘dirty’ for not washing her disposable pads before throwing them away, as people have called her out for it.

She wrote, “Is it wrong for me to not wash my pads after use? People have been calling me ‘dirty’ for this but I simply believe that disposable pads are not meant to be washed.”

“I just wrap my period pad with paper and put it into a small plastic bag, and then throw it away. I don’t think it’s dirty. I know people will say stuff about jinns and all but I don’t know, it’s my choice. Besides, it’s not like I just carelessly throw it away.”

Additionally, she shared that, based on her religious belief, there is no rule stating that pads need to be washed before being disposed of.

“As far as my understanding, even in the Quran or Hadiths, there are no mentions that you have to wash your period blood after using disposable pads. What you’re supposed to do is bury it,”

“I mean, you guys don’t wash baby diapers either, right? Even though it’s still feces? So, tell me, am I really ‘dirty’?”

What do you think?

Should throwing away your used pads in a proper manner be enough or do you wash your disposable pads first before throwing them out?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
