Hong Kong actor Mat Yeung’s mother-in-law and former actress, Datin Kong Yuk Chu, has passed away at 78.

Mat and his wife, actress and socialite Lisa Ch’ng, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Tuesday night (25 August). Lisa said her mother passed away surrounded by family and loved ones, having completed her life’s journey.

In a touching tribute, Lisa wrote:

“Mum, I miss you so much. I hope there is no more pain in heaven, and that you can happily travel around with Dad. We all love you so much. You will always be remembered.”

Both Mat and Lisa also asked the public to give her family the space and time they need to grieve, adding that she will not be making any further comments for now.

The heartbreaking news comes just weeks after Lisa and Mat held their wedding banquet in Malaysia earlier this month, following years of dating.

Mat is also currently dealing with another setback involving his roast meat restaurant, Six Hub Roast House in SS2, as the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) ordered the outlet to temporarily cease operations after finding that kitchen equipment and fixtures were occupying public space.

The restaurant is expected to resume operations on Wednesday (August 26).

Datin Kong was a former RTV (Rediffusion Television) actress in Hong Kong. In 1979, she married Malaysian businessman Ch’ng Poh, who passed away in February 2023.

Our deepest condolences to Lisa, Mat and the entire family during this difficult time. May Datin Kong rest in peace, and may her loved ones find strength and comfort in the memories they shared.

The wake and funeral services will be held for three days, from August 30 until September 1.
