A customer raised concerns after spotting a tudung featuring an inaccurate depiction of the Jalur Gemilang at MYDIN, prompting the retailer to halt sales of the product.

The issue was highlighted online after the customer questioned how a design featuring the national flag could make it through production and onto store shelves.

The star on Jalur Gemilang is incomplete

In a Threads post addressed to MYDIN, the customer stressed that the matter should not simply be dismissed as a design mistake, given the significance of the Jalur Gemilang as a national symbol.

“When the Jalur Gemilang is displayed upside down, the entire nation gets angry.

“But a product openly sold to the public uses a star that doesn’t even have 14 points?” the customer wrote.

The customer also questioned whether AI was used to create the design and asked what due diligence was carried out before the product was mass-produced.

MYDIN responds and highlights the supplier’s blunder

The concern appears to have caught MYDIN’s attention, with the retailer responding directly under the original post and assuring the customer it was taking the matter seriously.

In its response, MYDIN said it had instructed all its branches to stop selling the affected product immediately.

“An internal review found that the issue involved a printing error by the supplier,” MYDIN said.

The retailer added that it was taking the necessary action to ensure the same issue would not happen again. MYDIN also apologised for the oversight and thanked the customer for bringing the matter to its attention.

For many Malaysians, especially during National Month, the Jalur Gemilang is more than a graphic on a piece of clothing. It is also a symbol closely tied to national identity and pride.
