Not getting paid for all the hard work you’ve done is definitely not the best thing in the world because let’s face it, it’s a real pain in the ass, especially financially. Just like these people who got cheated and didn’t get paid for their hard work.
According to The Sun, event planner Eva Khoo and her collaborator incurred a lost of RM30,000 after they didn’t receive any payment for the Miss Asia Malaysia Pageant 2017 that they had organised. Oh dear, that’s a lot of money!
“I was introduced to the unscrupulous ‘client’ while attending a business launch in August last year and it was then I was offered to be the event planner for a beauty pageant that is happening in December,” said Eva during a press conference at MCA Public Services and Complaints Department yesterday (21 March 2018).
Eva also added that she collaborated with another planner to organise the event, who also didn’t get paid, to ease her work burden. She further explained that the event went by very smoothly and was a success.
“We contacted the ‘client’ on various occasions after the event for the payment but each time he would give us different excuses.
“Our nightmare finally turned into reality when he removed everyone from the pageant group chat, making everyone unable to get hold of him,” added Eva.
However, Eva isn’t the only one who hadn’t got her payment. She added that even the pageant winners and some of the contestants were also not paid.
NST reported that the winner of the contest, Liow Shin Ni, was supposed to receive RM12,000 but she didn’t get it. Poor girl!
“My friends and I had to use our own money to purchase our own air tickets to represent Malaysia,” said Liow who was one amongst the three winners.
On the other hand, Datuk Seri Micheal Chong, MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head, hoped all event companies will take Eva’s situation as a lesson so that they will not entrap themselves in similar scams in the future.
Well, after incurring such a huge loss we definitely hope that Eva and the rest of them will get a solution to the issue. Not only that, we also hope the authorities will take the necessary actions on the fraud.
